Plate punches, PCB, Printed Circuit Board registration equipment, CTP punch, single edge benders,
The origins of Billows Protocol date back to 1951 when the Production Tooling Company Ltd was formed. The company concentrated on design, with a large amount of work undertaken for the printing industry. The offset litho process was becoming popular, with an increasing demand for colour. Printers realised they could not operate efficiently without a registration system, so the decision was taken to concentrate on the manufacturing of registration equipment. With the introduction of manufacturing facilities, the company’s name was changed to Protocol.
After many years of trading, Len Billows decided to form a new company and Billows Ltd was established in Milton Keynes. In the early 1980’s the company was transferred from Len Billows to his children. Colin was made responsible for sales with Sandra looking after the manufacturing and administration of the company.
One of the biggest changes to affect the company was when Protocol Engineering went into receivership in late 1992 and was purchased by Billows Ltd.
As Protocol was a respected name in registration systems throughout the world, the joining of Billows and Protocol doubled the turnover of the company.
One of the most significant areas of expansion has been in direct sales to manufacturers. With most CTP manufacturers requiring punches fitted into their machines, they contact us for our expertise. This has resulted in Billows Protocol now supplying more than 1, 500 punch units per annum, to several of the best-known names in the industry.
